Synthetic Dispatch
A seven-issue zine series on what happens when AI rewrites knowledge work.
Synthetic Dispatch is the editorial arm of Gervi Labs — part zine, part intelligence briefing, part living archive.
The project began when Lena Thorsmæhlum took a body of writing Thordur Arnason had published on LinkedIn through 2025–2026 and asked a simple question: what if these weren’t posts — what if they were a zine?
Drawing on the punk zine tradition of the 70s through the 90s — photocopied, hand-stapled, unapologetically opinionated — she conceived the format, designed the visual system, and remixed the original texts into seven self-contained HTML microsites. Each issue has its own color palette, its own illustrations by The Synthetics, its own typographic voice. They are meant to be read the way zines were always read: cover to cover, in one sitting, with feeling.
Dispatches from the Shift — Series One
The series tracks a single argument across seven issues: what happens to knowledge work, enterprise software, and human cognition when AI becomes the default collaborator.
- #00 The Pyramids Crumble — The consulting model collapses.
- #01 The Four Horsemen — The SaaS model is next.
- #02 The Finite Mind — Your cognition is the scarce resource.
- #03 Cognitive Surrender — Five ways we stop thinking.
- #04 Eating the Seed Corn — The generation we’re not training.
- #05 The Rick Rubins — Taste, restraint, and the deliberate no.
- #06 Cyborgs of Swing — Find your band.
The arc moves from institutional collapse to individual crisis to collective hope. The consistent thread: AI makes everything abundant except human judgment, taste, and the ability to work together.
Beyond the zines
Synthetic Dispatch also houses a weekly AI briefing published every Monday and The Watchman — a live monitoring system tracking release notes from select AI labs.
All texts by Thordur Arnason. Concept, editing, and art direction by Lena Thorsmæhlum. Illustrations by The Synthetics. Published by Gervi Labs, Spring 2026.
